The internet-enthusiast corner of the mathematician world is all abuzz about the "Occupy Elsevier" boycott that Fields medalist Tim Gowers apparently kicked off last month. Some people are going beyond the pledge not to give submissions, reviews or other services to Elsevier's journals, seizing the moment to talk about more radical alternatives to the whole business of peer-reviewed journals, which is ridiculously slow and exclusive compared to the way research can be done on the internet, and is thoroughly captured by profit-seeking entities that are putting heavy pressure on university libraries with their exorbitant subscription prices. The new Math 2.0 forum is emerging as a home for those conversations. This may be a real moment of opportunity!
